A Quick Trip to Galveston, Texas

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Galveston was the closest beach destination to us. So I’ve been to Galveston a number of times in my youth, but not many times since I moved away from Texas in 2012. During my time away from Galveston, I was assuming I wasn’t missing much, as my memories of this coastal Texas city typically focus around the brown, murky water and seaweed invasion typically found at the beaches here.

Well, this past May I decided to give Galveston another chance. We planned a one-night impromptu visit to Galveston, Texas. We ate oysters, rode all the rides on Pleasure Pier, and happened to visit Galveston the one time the water was clear. Seriously usually the water here is known to be murky due to discharge from the Mississippi River, but because of some weird phenomena the water was blue and gorgeous. Lucky us!

Since we only spent one night here, we didn’t travel too far from the Seawall. And with a brewery, our hotel, eateries and the beach all within walking distance, we didn’t really need to travel more. However on the way out of Galveston, we did take some quick shots at Moody Mansion. This iconic mansion needed an iconic photo shoot. Don’t you agree?

Have you been to Galveston? What are your favorite spots on Galveston Island?

THE DEETS:

Where: Galveston, Texas

What: I recommend visiting Beerfoot Brewery, Pleasure Pier, and Moody Mansion. If we had more time, I would have LOVED to go to Moody Gardens!

When: We visited Galveston in May, so tourist season hadn’t quite hit yet. And since we were enjoy Pleasure Pier while school was still in session, we enjoyed every single ride multiple times without waiting in a line! Success!
